Unnaturally born?

I was summoned to the INS today. They call themselves the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service these days, but they're the INS.

Getting started

I used to think that teaching was hard work. That's got nothing on what Deb and I are trying to do now — get our business up and running. There's a lot of satisfaction in being a small business owner, in running your own business, in being your own boss. But I'll tell you something else — it's bloody hard work!

But I'm enjoying it. Our existing clients are keeping us decently busy, and lately we have been getting a pleasing amount of new business. Our latest website client seems quite pleased, and I enjoyed working on the photography for that project.

So what's next? We're planning a big advertising push for Astral Graphics, which should see our client roster expand quite mightily.

Because I had to…

…I queued up for five hours last week to buy a new iPhone. I didn't expect to queue up quite that long, of course; Deb and Amina and I got to the Apple Store at seven in the evening, and joined the end of the queue, expecting to be there for an hour —  well, maybe an hour and a half, but no longer than that. Surely no longer than that.

At half past eleven, we finally made it into the shop. Young Jared was very helpful, and at 11:57 we finally walked out, past a bloke who was being invited by a young lady from Tampa police to "calm down, now, sir" (an invitation I'd follow, if it were coming from someone with as large a gun as she was carrying), with shiny new iPhones in our hands.

And they're great fun. We've already found loads of new programmes to cram them full of, but right now Loopt is probably my favourite — it's an astonishingly easy way to keep up with people.

She Ain't Never Caught a Rabbit…

…and she's a hound dog, but Biscuit is quite definitely a friend of mine. Our new puppy-dog Biscuit is quite the hit in our neighbourhood, and she's keeping me busy with all the walking. The scooping of the poop is a less delightful activity than others in the day, but it's a small price to pay to have Biscuit fall asleep with her head in my lap as I sit on the sofa in the morning reading the paper before I sit down at my desk and plot, plan and strategise for the Three Lions Group's plans for world domination.
